The Special Service Area (SSA) is an economic development tool that allows additional real estate property taxes to be levied to fund added services for a defined area. The services funded through the SSA #52 tax, which pertains to 51st Street, are in addition to services generally provided by the City of Chicago. These services benefit those properties that are located within the boundaries of the SSA.
Mayoral-appointed SSA Commissioners for each SSA district oversee and recommend the annual services, budget and Service Provider Agency to the City.
The SSA #52 Commissioners and the community participate in a yearly planning session to determine the activities for the SSA funds.
SSA #52 meets with the Commissioners and community at least on a bi-monthly basis. These meetings are typically held at 1:00 p.m. at the offices of the 51st Street Business Association.
The following are the next scheduled meetings of SSA #52:
51st Street Business Association
City of Chicago Department of Housing & Economic Development
City of Chicago Business Affairs and Consumer Protection
City of Chicago Neighborhood Business Development Center
